We were suppose to take this trip earlier in the year with Jason's family but at the last minute they all decided to go to Warm River instead. Don't get me wrong, we love going to Warm River but we were excited to do something "new" this year. So because of that Jason and I had 5 very unhappy kiddos. to make it right (mind you we had been talking about this trip since we started planning back in Jan or Feb of this year) we took ALL of Labor Day weekend to go.
We had planned to leave Thurs after the kiddos got out of school (there was no school on Fri that week). But alas, nothing ever goes as planned and we didn't get outta here til around 6. Now keep in mind this is about a 3 hour drive for us. We HAD to stop so many times that we didn't even reach the lake until 10:30 PM and boy was it D.A.R.K.!!
When I was a kid forever ago, my mom's family would go to Bear Lake. We had the best of times. Anyway we always camped on the East shore (I think remember I am Directionally challenged so don't quote me on that) and that is where we had planned to go. So here we are a 10:30 at night trying to find a place to camp. NOT so fun. As we were driving all we could see were houses and gated communities we kept wondering if we had gone far enough up the shore to where had camped before with my family (about 13 yrs before, yikes!!)
It was getting late (er) so we decided to head back the way we had come and see if there was anything in the St. Charles campground. This is where his family ALWAYS camps at in site #3.
Luckily there was room. I think when we pulled in there was one other site taken. By this time is was getting close to 11 or 11:30 and we had some very tired kiddos not to mention 2 VERY tired and frustrated parents. Yep, good times! As I mentioned earlier it was DARK and our flashlights of course were in the trailer. Not so good. I took us forrevverr to get that stinkin trailer in. We finally had to get Jason's cell phone which has the flashlight app on it and use it so we could see what the heck we were doing. Well we finally got the thing backed in, unloaded enough that we could sleep and we all went to bed. YEAH!!
The next morning we got up had breakfast and decided to drove around the lake a little to see if we could find something in the daylight. Nope it is all house and private property now. So we decided to stay at ST. Charles. He headed back to camp to wait for our friends the M family to get there as well as Jason's parents who decided that they wanted to join us.
So to make a VERY long story of our fabulous weekend short we had a GREAT time. Spent 2 days on the water with friends and family then headed home for a mountain of laundry for me.
Funny story about this is we had to go into Montpelier to get a couple of things and we saw this. We laughed so hard!! Just after I took this, the guy mounted his horse and rode off. I guess drive through doesn't always mean a car.
Kaelen is afraid of the water so she is content to sit and play in the sand. The 2nd day we went don to the lake she wouldn't even get in her swim suit.

Well that concludes our summer fun. It's time to hit the books for the kids! Summer 2011 is over for us but we had a great one!

I grew up in a hick town in CA, and me and my friends rode our horses through the Jack in the Box drive through. The workers got mad, but we still got our food :)! Looks like a fun trip!
Going camping at night is just something we ALWAYS did...mainly because my parents were always loading the trailer until the last minute. LOL So trying to find your spot and backing up in the dark sounds ALL too familiar. Sorry.
